|
Klub Muzik Drama Workshop supported by Waterford Leader Partnership Ltd through the LDSIP Programme. The young people of Tramore completed their first 10 week drama course at Klub Muzik, Tramore, Co. Waterford for 10 – 14 year olds in June 2008. Klub Muzik feels that the workshops were a huge success and a great resource for the area. There was a large turnout (approximately 15 young people) each week and a very positive response from both the participants and their parents. Since that first 10 weeks block of workshops the young people have completed an additional 20 weeks of workshops. After the success of the first block of ten Klub Muzik decided to take on another group to cater for 7 -10 year olds. The number attending each of the groups has continuously grown over the months. The younger group (7 -10 years), were introduced to drama games, which allow them to think creatively, learn new skills but most of all to have fun with other young people in a safe environment. Over the months this group has reacted very well to our workshops. The older group (11-14 years) have past the stage of introducing them to drama games, they have successfully moved on to the next level. They are now each week honing their vocal and movement skills. At the beginning of the ten week term in May 2008 the young people were introduced to the play they will perform later in the year. The play is entitled ‘Joey and the Forgotten Library Book’ by Nicholas Kavanagh. Rehearsals have already begun and each participant given their part. The production is being directed by Kate McCarthy. There is a real sense of excitement each week as the young people travel deeper into the play and build the layers of each character up. All this hard work will culminate in a presentation of the play in Tramore at Christmas time 2008. This will be an opportunity for the young people to put into practice their new skills and to entertain their family and friends. The longer term aim is to continue the weekly drama workshops for the present participants but to also continue to welcome new faces to both age groups.
