Cappoquin Arts Facility:

This project was part funded by Waterford Leader Partnership under the Rural Development Programme.

The Cappoquin Community Development Co Ltd (CCDCL) was established in May 1993.  Membership of the company is voluntary.  The Company has an excellent record of achievements the most notable of these been the establishment of its €3.2 million Community Centre incorporating a sports hall, stage, gym, cookery demonstration kitchen, education centre and childcare facility.

The Committee are continuously pursuing in enhancing the centre and in April 2009 they approached WLP for financial assistance towards the upgrading of their arts facility.  The group has already successfully established their arts facility attracting many professional drama groups and artists to the facility however the lack of specialised lighting and adequate facilities for performers had presented its own difficulties.

The group recognised the need to install adequate stage lighting, chairs & ties, and accessories for the dressing rooms and centre. The adapting of their multipurpose hall into a highly equipped performance venue will serve as a great amenity to Cappoquin, bringing many people to the town and the community centre.

CCDCL completed their project in November 2009. The group is extremely pleased with the addition of the above purchases to their arts facility.  Two major events have already taken place in the centre i.e. Pat Short in concert and The Three Tenors.  The group is confident of building on its success and continuing to promote and develop its well established arts facility.
