LES - Failte Ireland Bar Skills Training in Dungarvan Print E-mail

Local Employment Service and Failte Ireland Bar Skills Training in Dungarvan – a tremendous success!!

The Local Employment Service, in conjunction with Failte Ireland, recently organized a Bar Service Skills Training Programme in Dungarvan (10th February – 15th April, 2010). This valuable training programme also received support from the Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP – co-ordinated by Waterford Leader Partnership Ltd.)

The programme was attended by 11 enthusiastic and committed LES Clients who learnt a variety of new skills during the Taster Programme. Failte Ireland “Taster / Return to Work” programmes are the first step on the road to working in the exciting and challenging tourism and hospitality industry. Failte Ireland’s highly skilled instructor, Trevor Sheehan provided the participants with key skills in their quest for employment in the areas of cash handling; draught dispense system; service of spirits; bar food service; legal aspects; glassware; service of bottled beers; cocktails and hot drinks, Manual Handling and Customer Service.

A professional CV was produced for each trainee by Jillian O’ Brien (LES Administrator). Niamh Kuhne (LES Mediator) also provided the trainees with valuable information on the recruitment and interview process before they participated in mock interviews, generously facilitated by Dominic Lofty (Operations Manager, Lawlors Hotel) and Julie O’ Donnell (LES Coordinator).

Training was held in Lawlors Hotel, Dungarvan and the participants now have the new skills and confidence to apply for a wide variety of locally-based, flexible jobs in a range of sectors within the tourism and hospitality industry. With many visitors visiting the area each year, the opportunity to up-skill those interested in working in the exciting Tourism industry is invaluable.

The LES is a free and confidential service for job seekers (in receipt of Social Welfare) offering a wide range of supports, including CV preparation; assistance with Job Applications & Interview Preparation.
