Modeligo Community Centre - Enhancement to Arts Facilities
![]() In 1986 the Modeligo Community Centre Committee was formed with the aim of purchasing and developing both a community field and centre. During the subsequent 12 months the committee began fundraising which resulted in the purchase of a site, the development of a community field, and the building of a multipurpose hall. In February 1994 the Modeligo Community Centre was officially opened. In 1996 the addition of a stage facility to the centre commenced. Since then, the centre has developed further through the provision of a car park, landscaping etc. The committee has also purchased chairs, lighting and a sound system for the arts/theatre facility. The Modeligo Community Centre has hosted shows such as ‘Teac a Bloc’, Danú, The Stacks, Sharron Shannon, Jon Kenny and productions by Dungarvan Drama and Finnisk Ceoltas. Based on feedback from past performers and artists to the centre, it is evident that a toilet facility adjacent to the stage dressing room is an essential requirement. Currently, artists have to go through the audience to access a toilet. The wheelchair accessible toilet would also greatly benefit the wheelchair bound attending stage shows/events at the centre. A disabled toilet is currently available in the centre however the location of this has caused its own problems. Been located to the rear of the kitchen it can only be accessed via the catering kitchen which conflicts with Health and Safety standards. Also, due to the fact that the kitchen is often in use for shows/events in the centre it becomes inaccessible. The Modeligo Community Centre sought grant aid towards the extension to its existing building to consist of an additional public toilet and a wheelchair assessible toilet in order to enhance its cultural facility.
