Copper Coast Mini Farm
This project received funding under the Rural Development Programme as administered by Waterford Leader Partnership under the Diversification into Non-Agricultural Activities measure of the RDP. The Copper Coast Mini Farm was first opened by Valerie & Laurence Curran and their three children in 2002 when looking for an alternative farm enterprise and was initially funded under the Leader National Programme. This friendly little pet farm is located in Fenor Co-Waterford, situated 4 miles from Tramore on the scenic coast road between Tramore and Dungarvan. Laurence is a dairy famer and Valerie is a former secondary school teacher who now works full time on the mini farm. The Copper Coast Mini Farm is fun and educational for all the family and has a safe child friendly environment where kids and animals can get up close and personal. Parents can relax in the Copper Kettle tearooms while watching their kids play football, drive pedal go-carts, toy tractors or play in the large sandpit area. Other facilities on site are as follows:
In 2010, the Currans approached Waterford Leader Partnership Ltd for assistance as they had decided to expand the mini farm even further and to make the facilities more weather friendly by erecting a new roof over the sandpit area; create new paddocks, and pathways around the mini farm and to plant shelter belts around the farm to protect from sea breezes. New signage and promotional material has also been produced as part of the project.
