Waterford Leader Partnership/LCDP -

Landscape Design and Stone Wall Building course in Mount Melleray Scouts Centre a huge success!

MELLERAY

Pictured above are 9 participants who took part on a Landscape Design and Stone Wall Building course in the Melleray Scouts Centre recently.  The training was funded by Waterford Leader Partnership/Local Community Development Programmed and Pobal.  The training took place over five weeks and was delivered by Brendan Stafford (tutor).  Modules covered included safety procedures in stonework, best tools for use in stonewall building, mortal selection, dry stone walling and wet stone walling, garden layout including soil selection and content and plant identification.  Following instruction from their tutor and practicing the techniques they learned the participants built a fire pit stone structure within an amphitheatre and also engaged in landscape design.   Their tutor Brendan Stafford commented on the high standard of their work and the interest displayed by the participants in learning a new skill. The Melleray Scouts Centre proved a beautiful and appropriate setting for this worthwhile training programme and a big thank you to David Stearn, FAS Community Employment Supervisor with the Melleray Scouts Centre for his co-operation and support.
