Salmon Hardship Fund - Community Support Scheme

The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has established a 'Community Support Scheme' of up to €5m for areas affected by the cessation of mixed stock salmon fishery in 16 fishery districts in Co. Waterford.

This scheme is not ordinarily directed at commercial salmon fishing licence holders but at the development of additional economic opportunities for crews and employees in the processing and ancillary sectors in communities where salmon fishing has been well established activity and where its withdrawal impacts on the economic and social fabric of the Community.

Possible types of projects that may be funded are:

  1. re-training of the labour force previously involved in drift/net salmon fishing
  2. Diversification into non-salmon fishing economic activity
  3. Diversification from ancillary activities previously dependent on the wild salmon fishery.
  4. Education and preparation of the labour force
  5. Any appropiate community project identified during the course of the scheme.

Public Information Sessions will be held:-

Tuesday 6th May @ 8pm in St. Declan's Hall, Ardmore

Tuesday 13th May @ 8pm in Seaview Celtic, Annestown

Wednesday 14th may @ 8pm Ocean Hotel, Dunmore East
