The Local Employment Service Network - LES - provides a guidance and placement service for the unemployed.
Waterford Leader Partnership Ltd. provides this service under contract to FAS. The LES forms one strand in a dual-stranded National Employment Service (NES):

- FAS, the National Training and Employment Authority, operates the Employment Services (ES); and

- Local Area Partnership Companies operate the Local Employment Services Networks (LESN) on contract for service from FAS.

The objective of the LES is to provide services to the long-term unemployed and those most removed from the labour market, as a direct response to the local context within which the LES is located. The LES delivers personalised services to those most in need and most distanced from the labour market.

County Waterford Local Employment Sevice (LES) Update.

The County Waterford LES is delighted to announce that a new Information (WATIS) Machine has been installed in its Dungarvan office.  This fantastic resource, which enables jobseekers access details of local vacancies and training / education opportunities, has been available in the Carrick office since 2006.

The LES is a service which assists the jobseeker in taking practical steps towards securing employment by providing access to a range of employment, training and education opportunities.  In 2007, the LES has organised many training programmes, on behalf of clients, in Basic Computer Training; ECDL; Communications / Personal Development; Failte Ireland "Bar Skills Training" and Failte Ireland "Food & Wine Service Skills Training".  The service also provides jobseekers with assistance with CV's, Cover Letters and Interview Preparation.

In 2006, the LES attained Q-Mark, an approved Quality Management System and Continuous Improvement Programme based on an Evaluation of the LES's overall Quality Programme.  This Quality Mark was awarded by the EIQA, Excellence Ireland Quality Association and will be assessed on an annual basis.

The LES is a free and confidential service for all jobseekers who are unemployed and in receipt of a Social Welfare payment.  To register with the LES or to find out more about the services, please contact the following offices:

2009 Testimonial from LES Client

I was made redundant at the end of September. Without the Local Employment Services I wouldn’t have got back to work so quickly. They helped me from start to finish with everything. A very important part of any interview now is having a good C.V. and the Local Employment Service provided me with a fantastic C.V. which gave me an edge over the rest of the competitors. They also helped me with my cover letters when applying for certain jobs which I feel also gave me a huge advantage when employers  saw this it made them look twice at me. I used the facilities in the  Local Employment Service office on a daily basis and they had all the up-to-date jobs on the notice boards and the WATIS Information machine.

I would recommend this service to anybody out there looking for work because it brings a self-belief to you and provides you with an excellent opportunity to return back to the workforce.”

Michael, Ring, Co. Waterford

“As someone who has being out of work during these hard recessionary times I want to offer a few words of hope to anyone that thinks that doing some of the courses and back to education are a waste of time.

Through the Local Employment Service and the hard work of people like Niamh and Jillian who constantly set up these services I recently did a course on Basic Guarding Skills which has now led me to a position with a company in Clonmel.  Even if it is only a short time which remains to be seen it just goes to show there is always hope.

This is indeed a testimony to the Local Employment service and the dedication of people like Niamh and Jillian.”

Tommy, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

TOMMY RETURNED TO WORK IN NOVEMBER 2009 ON A FULL-TIME BASIS.
