The Ballysaggart Community Development Company Clg applied for LEADER funding to improve the Community Centre to cater for the social needs of the community, while retaining the fabric of the old national school building constructed in 1869. The aim was to improve accessibility, layout, modernized bathrooms, improved access as well as broadband connectivity.
Following a successful LEADER application under the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, Local Objective Basic Services, Strategic Action 5.1 Basic services targeted at heard-to-reach communities, plus additional financial support from Tomar Trust, the community centre was transformed into a modern, fit-for-purpose facility while retaining the charm of the old national school.
The new facility has high quality finishes providing ample space with a large entrance area, two large halls, storage space, a services room, ladies and gents bathrooms, a wheelchair accessible WC, and a kitchen area. The premises was further improved with a new roof, windows and doors, plumbing, electrics and heating, a septic tank and drainage.
The improved community centre is an asset for the Ballysaggart community and will serve generations to come.
