Rural Development funding was used to invest in the installation of a 63m pontoon located in the deep water pool at Cheekpoint harbour with a 21m connecting wheelchair accessible gangway. The pontoon will allow access to vessels in all tides and provide safe river access for all local boat users.
This investment in key marine infrastructure that will facilitate full access to the River Suir for all marine boat and water craft users and was funded by the Rural Development Programme 2014 -2022 Rural Tourism Measure.
Overall, a new gangway and pontoon can provide improved safety, accessibility, efficiency, aesthetics, durability, adaptability, and regulatory compliance, making it a valuable investment for maritime operations, ports, marinas, and waterfront facilities.
