Supporting Rural Development in
Waterford County

EURI Low loader production and agricultural trailer manufacturing

Damien Power, an innovative manufacturer, has made remarkable strides in the agricultural sector with his bespoke high specification low loader trailers. Initially designing a trailer for a client requiring a rapid turnaround, Damien soon realised the limitations of his workshop in meeting the increasing demand. This prompted him to upgrade his equipment and seek grant support for essential machinery, such as a semi-automatic bandsaw and measuring system.

In 2023, Damien was awarded funding under the Rural Development LEADER Programme 2014–2023, specifically under LO2 Enterprise SA2.1, which supports existing enterprises with investment in new technology. This programme, outlined in the Transitional Guidelines Section 2, aims to support job creation, entrepreneurship, enterprise development, and innovation in a post-COVID-19 and post-Brexit environment. Section 3 further supports rural businesses in reaching new markets, expanding, innovating, and diversifying in response to these significant events.

The funding has significantly enhanced Damien’s operational efficiency and turnaround times. It has also enabled him to convert a part-time position into a permanent role and create an additional full-time job. This investment not only bolsters Damien’s business but also contributes to the broader goals of rural development and economic resilience.

This case study exemplifies the positive impact of targeted funding and support in fostering innovation and growth within rural enterprises.
