Waterford LEADER Partnership CLG was delighted to be part of the official launch of the Lismore Pods by Minister Dara Calleary, Minister of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht. The 2023-2027 LEADER programme funded the essential groundworks required to prepare the site for the installation of the five glamping pods.
This included:
• landscaping
• the construction of access pathways and parking spaces
• the installation of essential services such as water, electricity, and waste management systems to ensure a seamless integration of the pods into the existing environment.
The five glamping pods were funded under the Community Recognition Fund 2024.
The Lismore Town Association CLG developed the project to transform the grounds and garden area of the historic former Bank of Ireland building in Lismore into a premium glamping destination, creating an attractive blend of high-quality visitor accommodation and outdoor amenity in the centre of the town. A key element of the initiative is the provision of five high-quality glamping pods designed to accommodate couples and small families, thereby broadening the range of visitor accommodation available locally. The development will provide a distinctive, comfortable and environmentally conscious accommodation option, aligned with the growing demand for sustainable tourism experiences. The project will deliver economic benefit to Lismore by increasing overnight stays and strengthening visitor expenditure across accommodation, attractions, hospitality, retail and recreational services. Lismore Town Association CLG will be responsible for the management and operation of the facility. The project represents an excellent example of community-led local development in practice.
