Melleray Pilgrim Paths

The pilgrim walking trails of Mount Melleray; The Grotto, The Well, The Cross, The Source, and Byrne’s Bridge, collectively cover over 30 kilometers of track in the lower hills of the Knockmealdown Mountains. These scenic trails offer serene surroundings, inviting visitors to embark on a journey of reflection and discovery amidst the natural landscape.

The paths begin at the historic Mount Melleray Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in the early 19th century, which has long been a place of pilgrimage. Pilgrims and walkers alike can explore these unique trails of varying length and difficulty, each designed to foster a deeper connection with the natural surroundings while visiting significant landmarks. As the paths wind through lush woodlands, follow alongside peaceful streams and cross the foothills of the Knockmealdown mountains, they offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

PLEASE NOTE: Dogs are strictly prohibited on these trails. Dogs, whether on or off leads, cause stress and disturbance to farm animals and wildlife. Your cooperation ensures the safety of local animals. Thank you for respecting the farmers, landowners, and natural environment that make these trails possible.
