Nire Cabins

Nire Cabins

The Waterford Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) were delighted to assist the promoters, Paul and Ruth Deegan, part fund this project under the Local Objective 1 Rural Tourism, SA 1.4 Community hostels, RV Parks, glamping/camping. Funding went toward the development of the Nire Valley Eco Camp; a low density, low impact eco campsite using off grid timber cabins with individual integrated constructed wetlands (ICWs) for water treatment, allowing the comfort of full bathroom facilities in the cabins.

Paul and Ruth Deegan, have been involved in the hospitality and food business for years in England. They purchased a small farm in the Comeragh Mountains, very close to the very scenic village of Ballymacarbry right in the heart of the Nire Valley.  It is a unique location of tremendous beauty, relatively close to big centres of population and with easy access to a good road network for people looking to take a break from their busy urban lives.  They saw an opportunity for high quality eco friendly cabin accommodation in the valley to compliment the existing tourism providers, and allow visitors utilise the tremendous outdoor environment of both the valley and the mountains. They knew they could provide an environment is attractive to both Irish and Foreign guests alike.
