Owenashad River Walk

The Owenashad river walk has been a traditional walk used by the people of Lismore for many generations. However in recent years it has become overgrown and unsafe underfoot. The river bank has eroded in places due to the natural flow of the river and occassional flooding. The Lismore Tidy Towns Committee decided to undertake a project to make the Spring woodland walk at the end of the Strand more accessable and safer for townspeople and visitors to help them enjoy this area of natural beauty and approached Waterford Leader Partnership Ltd for assistance.

The project involved the development of an old walkway alongside the Owenshad River from the Strand area upriver for approx 3/4 of a mile. The area was cleared and a small bridge was built and there was some post and rail fencing installed for the safety of visitors and information signage erected.

The project was funded by WLP Ltd under the Rural Development Programme Encouragement of Tourism Activities Measure.
