Social Farming in South East Ireland
Social Farming integrates social support services with day-to-day activities on family farms. It offers individuals the chance to participate in farm life, promoting social inclusion, self-esteem, and overall well-being. The farm remains a typical working farm, providing a non-clinical environment where people can benefit from engaging in regular farm activities.
For farmers, Social Farming presents opportunities for income diversification and multifunctionality. It also fosters stronger connections with local communities by opening farms as part of the community’s social support system.
Waterford LEADER Partnership, with support from Leitrim Development Partnership and a local benefactor, is spearheading the development of Social Farming in the South East of Ireland. This initiative covers Carlow, East Cork, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford, and South Tipperary.
We are keen to connect with farmers, health and social care organisations, and representatives interested in developing social and health support services on farms.
