Funding was awarded under the Coastal Regeneration measure of the Cross Border Cooperation Rural Development Programme 2014-2022 towards 2 sailing dinghies, 1 support boat and 2 trailers.
This project will enable the youth of Dunmore East to learn new skills in the area of sailing, teamwork and safety afloat and potentially to gain employment in the area as sailing instructors. Offering scouting and related activities to the youth in the area is vital to their health and well being as successful and responsible members of their community.
While scouting has developed well in the area over the past decade, sailing has not been part of the range of activities. This project specifically will enable the scouts to experience sailing, teamwork and knowledge of the sea which has been out of reach for a lot of the youth of Dunmore East.
